昆布巻  Kobumaki (simmered food wrapped in rolled kelp)

Kobu and yorokobu(be pleased) are played on words. For this reason, it is a dish of good omen with a wish of a family’s prosperity.

【訳】昆布は「よろこぶ」や「子生(こぶ)」の語呂合わせから、一家の幸せと繁栄・不老長寿を願う縁起物です。

紅白かまぼこ Kouhaku kamaboko (Red and white colored fish paste)

A lucky charm which is red and white colored. It is often chosen because its semicircular shape looks like sunrise.
The color red means “amulet”, and white means holiness.
